Dr. Phil
Dr. Phil…Most of us know him, have listened to him, agree with him, and have maybe even disagreed with him.
I do not doubt that he has helped many people deal with the pain, struggles, and arrows life has thrown at them. So I was not surprised to see his show host a fat debate and a show on child obesity. Which can be seen and read on his website www.DrPhil.com.
I found this debate very interesting and I would like to put a couple of questions up for discussion.
Fat Debate part 2:
Are you obese?
Kelly is quoted as saying, “We’re in a world where being fat is considered a sin.” You can view her video clip in its entirety.
Dr. Howard Liebowitz, internal medicine and hormone specialist points out: Most people sit for a majority of the day, and exercising for 45 minutes is not much compared to how our bodies were created to move. “We were Genetically designed to really be active all the time, so we have to shift our metabolism to match our lifestyles and behaviors and eating carbohydrates increases our risks for gaining weight and being insulin resistant,” he explains.
I believe God genetically designed our bodies to function in a particular way. Over time the proper way of keeping our bodies healthy has been drastically changed. Maybe even sabotaged! From our lifestyles, to our behaviors, to what we eat.
In my opinion, being fat is a sin.
I encourage you to read my book Fit for Life. God clearly instructs us in his word, His plan for our body both spiritually and physically. The church is very guilty of sin in regards to obesity.
